Winter Reading Nook Puzzle from Buffalo Games

The Winter Reading Nook Puzzle from Buffalo Games is a great example of Aimee Stewart’s amazing artwork. Fantastic scenes. Bright colors. And wonderful detail. Although at first glance this looks like it might be a terribly challenging puzzle, it actually ended up being completely frustration-free and a true joy to complete. That’s not to say there weren’t spots that made us go ‘hmmmm’, but there is still lots of fun to go around.

Stop And Look

It pays to take some time after you complete this Winter Reading Nook Puzzle from Buffalo Games and just enjoy the many great objects you will find. A genie lamp. An Alice in Wonderland book. A snow globe. The northern lights. So many, many things. And of course, there’s Ms. Stewart’s signature fox. This puzzle is why we are big fans of her work. We know that we are always going to have a puzzle that makes us happy, from the first piece to the last!

The Last Piece

This puzzle contains 1000 pieces. There is a poster included in the box. The final puzzle is about 20″ high and 27″ wide. The pieces fit well and it was difficult to get a piece wrong, which is always a ‘whew’ thing. The artwork is amazing and the colors are fantastic.

Holiday Village Square Puzzle from Vermont Christmas Company

Whew. I gotta admit it, I’m kinda glad my wife did most of the heavy lifting putting together this Holiday Village Square puzzle from Vermont Christmas Company. I found it to be quite difficult. So, I just did the sky. She took on the buildings and her favorite, the Christmas trees. In the end we both stepped back and enjoyed the final result and I breathed a breath of relief! The colors and imagery were amazing!

A Wonderful Holiday Puzzle

This Holiday Village Square puzzle from Vermont Christmas Company would make for a great gift. It’s a wonderful picture. It’s a happy picture. And even though it’s snowing and icy in the picture, it feels warm. This would be an excellent way to pass a cold fall or winter’s day. Well, days really because it’s not that easy!

The Last Piece

This puzzle did not include a poster but the picture on the box is nice and large and easy enough to reference instead. There are 1000 pieces in this puzzle. The assembled puzzle is about 30″ wide and 24″ high. The pieces fit very well. The colors were great and the pieces are thick and cut perfectly.

Charleston Puzzle from Dowdle

This was our first puzzle from artist Eric Dowdle. We have been attracted to his works from the moment we first saw them. This Charleston puzzle from Dowdle did not disappoint. The colors are amazing. The image is amazing. And oh, was it ever a challenging puzzle to complete! This is one of the most enjoyable final results we’ve done. It took us a while, but it was oh so fun! We are looking forward to more puzzles from Mr. Dowdle!

Fun Cuts

The pieces in this Charleston puzzle from Dowdle are cut fairly ‘weird.’ They’re all sorts of shapes and sizes. They really threw us for a loop at first. But then we realized that those random cuts are a lot more fun than ‘ribbon cuts’, where all of the pieces are similar if not the same. You can see a few of them in the close-up picture, below.

The Last Piece

This 1000 piece puzzle included a wonderful, large poster. The puzzle is very frameable. For that matter, the poster is too! The assembled puzzle is about 20″ wide and 27″ high. The pieces are random-cut and fit really well, although we did encounter a few pieces that weren’t completely cut. The puzzle picture is amazingly bright and colorful. This is a tremendously fun puzzle!

Paint Party Puzzle from LEGO

The Paint Party puzzle from LEGO was our second LEGO-themed puzzle. It definitely had its challenges. The first, Ice Cream Dream, was a tough one too. Although fun and rather whimsical, the LEGO pieces are very similar in color from bucket to bucket. This made it quite difficult at times. And so did the similar ‘paint’ cans. But, in the end, when that last piece went in, we got to step back and enjoy another fun LEGO-inspired puzzle!

Keep An Eye Out

We found both of our LEGO puzzles in antique malls. It pays to look around antique malls or thrift shops or flea markets. We’ve been really fortunate in that we almost always get gently-used puzzles for great prices. Like they say, it’s often the thrill of the hunt that makes it fun. But so does working on great puzzles like the Paint Party puzzle!

The Last Piece

This 1000 piece puzzle did include a poster, but it was quite small. We found ourselves using the picture on the box more than the poster. The assembled puzzle is about 25″ wide and 20″ high. The pieces fit very tightly. They are cut in very simple patterns, which did help make it a little easier to assemble. That’s good because the similar colors definitely posed a challenge.

Whiskered World A Kitty Kaleidoscope Puzzle from Cross and Glory

I thought it was funny that when we were done with this Whiskered World A Kitty Kaleidoscope puzzle from Cross and Glory, one of our favorite puzzle makers, I thought “Boy, that’s odd. There’s a cat eye in the middle of that cat’s hoodie.”. Really? That was my first thought? Not the great colors. The magnificent faces. Or the missing ears. Yeah, that one eye. Just staring at me.

But seriously, what a great puzzle this was to assemble. And a great challenge too. This puzzle took us quite a while to assemble. But it was more than worth it. It’s different and amazing. You’d half think that it’s a photograph it’s so well done.

One Piece

The interesting thing about this Whiskered World a Kitty Kaleidoscope puzzle from Cross and Glory is that once you get beyond the border, there’s just one style of piece. There aren’t any fancy cuts. No weird fits. Just one piece. You’d think that’d make it super-easy. But it doesn’t. Oh no, not at all. This puzzle is a test of your endurance and perseverance.

This 1000 piece puzzle included a poster. It’s a small poster, about the same size of the image on the box. The assembled puzzle is about 20″ wide and 27″ high. The pieces fit very well and the image quality on the pieces is quite good. The colors were great and bright. The imagery is fun and enjoyable. If we had room to hang our finished puzzles, we’d definitely hang this one.

Spooky Tooth Puzzle from SunsOut

This Spooky Tooth puzzle from SunsOut was the first puzzle we grabbed as we began our journey through the Puzzled Fun and Games store at The Island in Pigeon Forge, TN. I knew the store would be dangerous from 200 feet away. Dangerous in a very, very good way. This puzzle caught both of our attention as the cat reminded us of our sweet Macey, a fiery tortoiseshell cat that would not hesitate to jump on a classic car sitting in a field. Or anything else for that matter.

Difficulty Rewarded

There are definitely some places in this Spooky Tooth puzzle from SunsOut that posed a challenge. In fact, very little about it was easy. The grass pieces all looked the same. The chrome was similar. The trees and sky? Oh my! Thankfully the cars were each a different color! I can’t imagine if they’d all been painted black!

This puzzle did not include a poster. However, the box is pretty large and the picture on it is nice and clear. There are 1000 pieces in this puzzle. The assembled puzzle is about 20″ high and 27″ wide. The pieces fit very well and the image quality on the pieces is fantastic. The colors were great.

Heirloom Pumpkins Puzzle from Galison

This was one of the first puzzles we put together. I’m not sure how we made it through it. This Heirloom Pumpkins puzzle from Galison was not an easy puzzle to complete. So many of the pumpkins were similar in color. And texture. It was a challenge. I bought this puzzle because my wife loves pumpkins. Our efforts were rewarded because we both loved the final result.

Stems For The Win

Easy identifiable objects in a puzzle can make it a bit easier to assemble. The pumpkins themselves are very similar, so it was kind of hard to try and separate the pieces by color. But the stems seemed different enough (specially when using a magnifying glass) that they became our starting points. This Heirloom Pumpkins puzzle from Galison was a great challenge with a rewarding finish.

The Last Piece

This puzzle included a small but high-quality poster. You’ll need it. And if you’re like us you’ll make a lot of use of a magnifying glass. There are 1000 pieces in this puzzle. The assembled puzzle is about 20″ high and 27″ wide. The pieces fit very well and the image quality on the pieces is fantastic. The colors were great. This is a quality puzzle that brings hours of enjoyment.

Turkey In The Straw Puzzle from Buffalo Games

We needed a break. A break from the huge, tougher puzzles we’d been doing. Oh don’t get me wrong, we love doing puzzles that takes us several days. We love the challenge. But we just wanted something smaller and quicker. But still nice. So we put together this Turkey In The Straw puzzle from Buffalo Games. Another work by Charles Wysocki, and we so enjoyed this puzzle. We’ve found ourselves loving Mr. Wysocki’s art more and more.

The Right Size For A Few Hours Of Fun

This wasn’t a huge puzzle. It was the perfect puzzle for a Saturday afternoon. Sorting the pieces was pretty straightforward. The colors were great. We loved the picture in this Turkey In The Straw puzzle from Buffalo Games. It’s one of those puzzles you just feel warm looking at. From start to finish.

Treasures Puzzle from We Care

We picked up this Treasures Puzzle from We Care in an antique mall in Kokomo, Indiana. It’s an older puzzle but it had never been opened. The artwork was appealing. From the box we could tell it was originally sold to support a local charity, We Care. The artwork was done by Mike Sears, a prolific artist that started in Kokomo and later ended up in Silver Dollar City. He has done a number of charity pieces, like this one. His story is fascinating and worth the read.

A Challenging Joy

This Treasures Puzzle from We Care was definitely not without its challenges. To begin with, the pieces are thick and fit pretty tightly. That’s not a bad thing, but when you get one wrong, you’re going to work for it. It takes a bit of finagling to get that piece back out. The trees and parts of the grassy areas were definitely more difficult. But, boy, was it great to put in that last piece and enjoy the final result!

One Kind of Piece

Once you’re past the edges, there’s actually only one shape of piece in this puzzle from LEGO. Each piece has two tabs on the ends, and two sockets (blanks or holes, whatever you like to call them!) in the middle. They are either placed vertically or horizontally. But don’t think that makes it easier. Get that thought out of your head right now. Some of the colors are very similar. It’s a challenge!

This 1000 piece puzzle did not include a poster, however this puzzle is quite old so it’s not surprising. The assembled puzzle is about 25″ wide and 20″ high. The pieces are thick. And they’re even more stubborn to take apart if you have a piece wrong.

Cookies and Cocoa Puzzle from Buffalo Games

Sometimes, it seems we can finish a puzzle from artist Aimee Stewart in the blink of an eye. Not that we’re in a hurry mind you. And it’s not that her puzzles are particularly easy. No, it’s more a matter of us getting in the ‘puzzle zone’. That’s when pieces just seem to fall into place. Well, that didn’t happen with this Cookies and Cocoa puzzle from Buffalo Games. Aimee Stewart got us on this one. We were definitely not in the ‘puzzle zone’. There were challenges to be found everywhere. Lots of patterns. Lots of colors. And a lot of little detail. It’s a great challenge and truly an enjoyable one!

The Fox

We didn’t find out until after we’d completed a few of Aimee Stewart’s puzzles that she often includes a fox in her art. Sometimes the fox is kind of hidden. Sometimes it’s not. Like in this Cookies and Cocoa puzzle from Buffalo games. There’s no missing the fox for sure!

Vintage Cards

There’s a lot of really neat stuff in this puzzle. Great old Christmas cards for starters. Old plates. Mittens too! And sweets and treats that we remember from our childhoods. It’s another wonderful puzzle by one of our favorite artists.

The Last Piece

This 1000 piece puzzle included a poster and is around 27″ wide and 20″ high when assembled. The pieces fit very well and the image quality on the pieces is good. The colors were great and the pieces are cut perfectly. The completed puzzle is a joy to sit back and look at. You’ll find many vintage pictures, recipes and Christmas cards.
